Fine Embroidery, Fort Kochi, Kerala / January 2016

Fine, real fine handmade embroidery, and some of it is a dying art.

Shadow embroidery on linen with Hebrew motif.

Each rose petal has been embroidered with approximately 400 French knots.

This 12-foot piece was purchased by a Paris museum.

Made with twenty plus bobbins, Indian women learned this art from missionaries from foreign lands where this type of embroidery is no longer practiced, and according to the salesman, only two women make it now but the art will die with them as there is no interest in the younger generation to continue the art.
